A natural use for bottles was medicimal. Liquids, salves, pills, powders, etc. could be easily stored and preserved.

In the days before adequate lighting, the wrong bottle could be consume at night. To help prevent this, medicine and poison bottles were embossed on at least two sides. The bottle shape was also designed to force one into grasping it on the embossed sides.

One such bottle was used by druggist Charles B. Fogarty of Key West.

Packaging of alcholic spirits remained a primary user of bottles.

And for the serious consumer.

It was not long ago that the quart, pint and half pint milk bottle was a daily product.
