- The Channeling Machine -

Normally there were at least a crew of four at the quarry.

     The quarry had to be self-sufficient and was capable to almost any repairs.

Shown above a gasoline engine is being exchanged.

     Another worker was Lewis Moore.
     J.P is shown at the controls of the channeling machine. The two supports for the vertical chisels can easily be seen. The chisels moved up and down scrapping away the coral. Not shown is a water pump to wash away the debris in the channels.
     Another worker with the machine. World War II stopped the operation of the quarry. Charles Cale was an expert dynamite blaster and moved to the Bahamas for US Navy work. He left the quarry in 1942.
