A top that screwed with threads on the inside is unusual.

Clay for these bottles was not a common material for production in the US. Many of these bottles were manufactured in Europe.

In 1870 a self-sealing mouth with a glass marble was invented. As gases inside increased the pressure maintained the marble seated.

Many of these bottles were broken to get the glass marble inside.

About a decade later the above top became popular in the US and was used for considerable time.

The rings had tight fitting rubber gaskets held in place by a spring loop that latched over the outside lip. As seen this bottle was used in Miami.
